Peonies and the Past

Ili Nur Asiyah

My grandma used to sell traditional delicacies on the street. When she arrived in Singapore from her rural village, she had to work wee hours to feed her 10 kids which weren't easy, but these plates were the first luxury items she purchased and managed to pass down to all her children. Eating out has always been a luxury for us thus these plates bring nostalgic feelings and memories of her spiritual teaching, cooking, and sweet treats.

Being a florist, I wanted to show her strength, joy and love by using peonies– a delicate and luxurious flower, as a symbol of her journey of empowerment.
